Progressive Test 2 OVER!
Phwoar! Tests can really fry your brain cells, huh? It has been such a long and stressful week! On my end, I thought we were doing a full paper for English so I was desperately trying to finish marking (very) old assignments and go through situational writing formats with all of you. I think I haven't laughed for like, 4 days! I think you could all see that I have been quite moody and un-dramatic (till today).
I had a really good laugh this afternoon, though, talking about childhood games with my drama club instructor Miss Chermaine. Oh man! Can you remember all the silly games you played as a child? Pepsi Cola 1-2-3? "Zombie Catching" where the catcher has to jump around to catch people? Freeze and Melt? Ji Go Pa? I miss being a little kid!!! :P If you can remember what games you played as a child, tell us about them!
No one has responded to my Qs on LOVE... maybe because they look too much like an argumentative essay? Or is the topic too boring? Post responses, people! If no one is interested in any of the topics I've proposed, then can someone come up with a new one? Class committee members, or maybe Tim or Jie Wi who won the last blog prize? Whoever comes up with the topic of the week gets to pick the next winner as well.
Couple of things regarding next week:
1) We need to take down CNY decorations and redecorate our classroom by Wednesday, before visitors come to assess our school on Friday. Please assist noticeboard reps, everyone! I will also give us a bit of time to do decorations in Lifeskills lesson - we can FINALLY finish those overdue motivational posters. People who haven't handed in your target setting sheets, please do so in Lifeskills next week.
2) There will be English Comprehension Club for the WHOLE CLASS on Monday from 1:05pm to 2:00pm. Please come to the Arts Hub IMMEDIATELY after PE, because the session will take 1 hour. I have arranged to take over from SS Remedial with Miss Yati, and she will see you all at 2:30pm. We will go through a passage from the Distinction in English Assessment in small groups - I will explain how this works during the session on Monday.
3) More good news: in future, Tuesday's English Mock Test will only be ONE HOUR long, lasting from 2:30pm to 3:30pm.
On that happy note, have a good break this weekend, everyone! Because there will be another Progressive Test very soon! Sadly I don't get a break, because I am still marking your test papers! :P

LOVE
10-finger clap for Zhong Ping! Wooh!!! Can I request that someone (Vaisha?) post what the TOPICS are for next week's block test? Because I am certain that there are people who have NO CLUE what is being tested... :P For English, I repeat, it's PAPER ONE, free writing AND situational writing.
This week's blog topic, which is related to Valentine's Day:
1) Do you think it's a good idea for Secondary School students to be involved in romantic relationships? In your opinion, what is an appropriate age to start dating?
2) What are some of the benefits or disadvantages of being in a relationship in your teenage years?
3) Do you believe true love exists? What, according to you, is love?
Answer any or all of the above questions. This topic will stay up for 2 weeks, because I am sure everyone will be BUSY with BLOCK TEST REVISION!

For EL on Thursday, our entire class will go to Computer Lab 2 to type out our narrative essays.
For EL on Friday, our entire class will stay in 5A and I will go through Paper 1 Part 2 corrections.
Once again, you can get the new blog password from Vaishanavi, Zhong Ping or Fariq. Vaisha & Zhong Ping have created an SMS tree to spread messages around the class, so I will see if I can SMS the password to everyone that way.
Blog prizes for these two weeks will be given out in the next Lifeskills lesson, together with Progressive Test 1 awards.
All the best everyone! :)

Post-Party Blues
Dear 5A,
Once again, I must say a big thank-you to all who came for the party on Saturday, especially to Jeffery who came early to help and stayed late to clean up. Thanks to everyone who came on time, helped to chop fruits and even helped the caterer to set up! I'm also grateful to our SJAB girls who rushed down after a tiring morning of training. Also, I must thank our Cleanliness Rep who mopped the floor and surprised the girls with his domestic skills. Hahaha! :P I must say I especially enjoyed watching the dares and double dares! :) Those of you who took photographs, other than Zhong Ping, can upload them as well, especially since our Vice-Chair is not feeling well and needs to catch up with schoolwork. Take care of your health everyone, because Progressive Test 2 takes place next week!
For Lifeskills on Wednesday, we will review our Progressive Test 1 grades and set targets for next week's tests. After that, I hope we can FINALLY finish our motivational posters. Remember to bring your posters and any materials you may need to make them! Also, Birthday Reps, please bring the birthday cards for January so everyone can sign them. People who have not passed your hearts to your secret pal, please do so by this week! Get a friend to pass it to this person so you can remain anonymous. Regarding the School Family Education forms, only submit them if your parents are interested in coming for SFE events. Apologies to those who have submitted them even if your parents are not keen.
I organised a class gathering early in the year, because once we get to March, we really have to step up the pace and start going full steam ahead. And believe it or not, we are already in the second week of February. From March to October, we only have 7 months to the GCE 'O' levels. If you haven't already "woken up" and started working hard, you cannot wait till any later than March. People who have been missing remedials or refusing to take mock tests seriously, stop wasting your own time. Believe me, if you laze around till the June holidays, there is no way you can catch up in a couple of months, and you will definitely freak out. Most of you should have realized by now that the gap between the 'N' and the 'O' levels is really big and everyone has to work doubly hard to close that gap. There is no time to waste. If you are willing to put in a solid 6 to 7 months of effort, you will be amazed by what you can achieve.
Party time is over! Let's get settled down into study mode. The boredom, misery, and struggle will be worth it when you receive your results this time next year.
:)

hallo, classmates... its me, the vice chairperson again. well, i'm here to post pictures about my friends. =)) hahas... after looking at what tim had post, make me want to post something too... thanks ah tim...
alright, to me friendship is very importatnt. they are a source of help in your life. though it cannot be compared to kinship but friendship is very important. sometimes when you met with difficulties talking to your family, you will want to share with a friend like?! these is when your friend is there for you. =)) for me, hen ever i'm with my bunch of girlfriends or boyfriends, i feel so relax and fun. i love spending my times out with friends and chat all day. i'm not tired at all man. i really think if a person without a friend his or her life will be DEAD BORING!!!
so classmates!!! we must love each and everyone single person in the class man!!! lets the love goes on n on in our class so that every single day of our life in school ill be filled with LOVE, JOY AND MORE LOVES!!!
by the way, i seriously agree with what tim said in his post man. i think we 5a are really lucky to have such a form teacher like miss ruby man.. who is so involve with the class affiars!!! don't you all agree? she is really bonding the class together man!!! hahas... so as students we should show some appreciation yea?

Making the blog look interesting!!
Yes it's me, nothing to be shock ok? I was just thinking i should at least write something on our class blog since i'm part of the 5Aspire class. What i'll be doing for the blog today is to put some photos of what i've been doing last week. Which was quite fun, because i enjoyed the company of my 2 great buddies. It's always very relaxing to go out with them despite our havok behaviour wherever we go. But eventually, we still enjoy ourselves alot. Here's a photo first.

Gladys-Me-Jping
They are seriously a cool bunch of friends. We club together and hang out together on every fridays and saturdays. That's why i do not like the sec5 schedule. Affecting my outings which i know it does me good, at least we have extra lessons helping us to improve better. But studies do come first right? What else? Actually to be frank, i do like this year's sec 5 class. All of us are matured enough to know what to do and not to do. But for me, i do not know what i am doing in school. Terriblly messy in my life now. There are just too many things happening this year which i can not solve or maybe even figure it out why are all this things happening. But no matter how things are going, the best way is to carry on in life.
Anyway it is a huge thanks to Miss Ruby for being such a great teacher, it is very motivating to have such a Form-teacher like this. For the past 5 years in Greenridge, all the Form-teachers i had were not as active as Miss Ruby. They would not even bother to have a class blog, class t-shirts or what so ever that we are doing now that were not done in my last 5 years. Alright i know i have been misbehaving in class, which i had been doing it for the whole time in Greenridge, thats quite stupid, but its kind of like my own fun in school. I will try to control ok? No worries at all 5Aspire. For our Pgls thingy, maybe i will apologise on their behalf? I know we have been a nuisance in class affecting all of you all and making you all feeling irritated and affecting the mood of the class especially our VICE CHAIRMAN(ZP) hooor...? Lol. Apologies to you all! Yes! i remembered! Saturday would be our ever first or should i say my ever first class meeting? Indeed it is my first class gathering not outing. Really looking forward to the event, which includes the CHOCOLATE FRUIT FONDUE!! Miss Ruby i hope you don't mind this picture. Lol. (Miss Ruby i would not be getting any detention right?) Lol. For entertainment. Teehee..

Lmao. 1 finger clap would not be good enough actually. *3 fingers clap* I am enjoying all this gathering!! Although it has not happen yet. I will make it to the event of our class no matter what. It is my last year in Greenridge which is sad to say.
The next picture is after Clubbing at Old School..

And the next picture is after a Movie "BRIDAL WARS" which suck a lot. Thanks. Not recomended. Supposingly i thought, really thought it would make me feel happier after the movie, because the trailers were kind of funny. But it did not make me feel any happier, due to some family problem on that night so i just went out to escape all the nuisance which i could not stand.

Hey, i was forced in doing the "peace" sign. It is not a choice. Lol. Thanks a lot. The four Cam-whores. We were like snapping so crazily in the cinema after the show. Anyway not to push the blame to others, but the idea was one of the girls inside the pic. Not me seriously not me! I was forced! But i seem to like it a lot.
The last is Me with the Politicians.

Oh yes, my interesting birthday prank last year by a bunch of friends which were very smart of them!! Sticking a Cigarette in my cake and asking me to blow the cigarette continuosly till it finishes. It took me at least Half an hour blowing the cig till it finished! Smart move though. Because they did not have candles. Enjoy the rest of the photos class! Love y'all!!

thursday time-table
Thursday's Time-tableEnglish, Geography/history, F&N/D&T/Art, Recess, Mother tongue, social studies and Assembly
Majority/ Minority
I'm looking online for a Halal food caterer at the moment, and I'm thinking back on the discussion we had during Lifeskills today. I must say I am quite disturbed by the comments that came flying around about the need to provide Halal food, and I'm sorry I didn't handle the situation very well. I thought that some of our classmates looked quite stressed out about the whole affair.
It's really important that we respect each others' cultures and needs in a multi-racial country. I don't say this to be politically correct, or just because I am a teacher, but because I know how it feels when people say, "Oh darn, we have to provide vegetarian food for you? So troublesome." It's not a pleasant feeling.
Also, after living in the US for 4 years, I have some sense of what it feels like to be the "minority" in a country. Often, people in the "majority" are blind to what the lives of people in the "minority" are like. "Majority" people sometimes say things out of ignorance, which they think are true or funny, but really, they are not. In the US, people often commented on how good my English was, because they assumed I was from China and couldn't speak English well. I found that quite annoying, but you can't blame people for not knowing where Singapore is, because we are just a small dot on the map.
Racism is not about "hating" another culture. It starts with ignorance and insensitivity. At some point, jokes and comments about race stop being funny and become hurtful. Anyway, enough preaching from me.
Check out the song "Everyone's A Little Bit Racist" from the Broadway musical Avenue Q if you are interested in this topic. The song offers an interesting point of view about how everyone's racist to some extent - it's just how we manage our own racism. Interesting, eh? How many of you are willing to admit to your own racism and try to do something about it?

Finally, I hope everyone can make it to the party! :) Do keep posting about your goals, sharing your pictures etc.
Miss Ruby
Hi people!!!!
This is the 1st time posting on this blog. I have just decided some time ago what i should aim for.
I aimed to get the following grade for my 'O's
Eng:2
MT:4
Sci:1
Ma:2
F&N:2
Geo:3
Total:14
Courses in mind: Mecha-tronics(NP/SP), Animation(NP), Network and security(NP).
Well, I got to continue to focus and study hard and also really must stop getting distracted by other thing and people... (e.g Jeffery's nonsensical talkings) :P
Anyway, I just wanted to make myself clear especially to PGLs. I DO NOT GO HOME AND PLAY GAME EVERYDAY ONLY. Ok... I think you all meant it as a joke.
I've set piorities for myself what to do and when to do.
1. 1st thing home after freshening up... Homework.
2. Tuition 2-3 times a week. (I always find myself quite stupid. This is also a way to force my lazy self to study.)
3. Either abit of TV/game/sports to relieve stress a few times a week
4. A bit of drawing... (Novice)
5. Revision.
Hope all of you can get a good result in your 'O's and also so that all of us can get out of this school together and get to at least a Poly! (I don't mean this school is bad. :p) God Bless!
